Everything in its place

Updated: Dec 30, 2019

The most important thing with gardening is knowing where to plant what, and what to plant where. Always check your national website to see the preferences of any given plant, whether it needs sun, shade, much water, little water, or a certain pH of soil. I use the RHS website as the label on the pot doesn't always tell you much. Their website is here: https://www.rhs.org.uk/.

I had a shady spot in my garden just crying out for an arum lily, so I bought one from my favourite plant man. "It won't flower this year," he said. "Don't worry, I have patience," I said. "I'm a gardener." He laughed. Well, I didn't need much patience in the end, as this lovely specimen of Zantedeschia aetiopica flowered this year in September, rather than in April or May next year.
