Gallery

Welcome to my project gallery! Here, you’ll find a selection of some of the gardens that I have had the pleasure of designing, each crafted to blend beauty, functionality, and a deep respect for the client’s vision. Each project reflects the unique potential and creativity we’ve developed together.

Voss House - Therapy Centre in Bozeman, Montana

This spectacular house, originally an inn, was renovated and transformed into a beautiful, serene environment for in-patient therapy. The existing garden was scruffy and desolate in parts, and needed a redesign to complement the beautiful house. A large paving circle was built for gatherings, with space left on the lawn for small tables and deck chairs. The beds were designed to curve around a walkway and hide different parts of the garden from site, to add an air of mystery and surprise.

Patio garden and walkway - Voss House Therapy Centre

This patio area at the Voss House therapy centre needed a revamp, and after an easy-access walkway was installed, a narrow bed all along it needed to be planted up. The areas needed plants that would provide year-round interest in mostly shaded areas.

Contemporary Rectangular Garden

This rectangular newbuild garden had only a lawn and a deck. The brief was to incorporate plants and paths, while maintaining a clean, slick contemporary look, and including place for football. We used porcelain plank-style paving and installed raised beds with plants suited to the soil and aspect, all requiring very low maintenance. A new deck was installed for dining. Other elements will be added, such as  laser-cut screens, and a pergola defining the eating area. The existing concrete patio was also relaid with porcelain pavers.

Northants house

This project was a newbuild garden with problems of strong winds and impeded drainage. We installed raised beds with plants that tolerate wet conditions, a pergola on a gravelled section, and an arbour against the red brick wall, to provide interest. An extra curving bed was laid, with three obelisks up which to train sweetpeas. Stepping stones were placed on the lawn to reach the gravelled pergola section.  It's amazing the difference plants make to a space, no matter how beautiful the hard landscaping is.

Circular motif garden

This existing garden was outdated and tired, and the top corner was sinking. As the client loved circles, we designed a circular patio with space for her beautiful Buxus balls, and overlapping lawn circles.

Market Harborough Garden Design

This garden started as a plain, overlooked stretch of patchy grass and concrete — functional, but with no real character or charm. The brief was to create a calm, flowing layout with different garden "rooms" and loads of bold planting and seasonal colour.

I reimagined the space with gentle curves and defined shapes to bring movement and structure. A winding gravel path and stepping stones draw you through the space, leading to a newly placed arbour that will one day be framed with climbing plants. The deep blue fence and matching shed form a dramatic, unifying backdrop for the garden to grow into, and acting as a dramatic foil for the owner's collection of beloved blue ceramic pots. The bottom of the garden, in deep shade, will be the Fern Room, with tree ferns, hostas, ferns and Astilbes.

Right now, the layout is in — and the planting comes next. Beds have been shaped and are ready to receive a mix of evergreen structure and swathes of bold blooms. This is a garden on the brink of becoming something truly special.

Leicester small garden

This completely paved back garden needed a simple, low-maintenance update. Taking up one row of pavers at the back and two rows along one side, with a stone edging to define the borders, was the ideal solution, and much builders rubble was removed, replaced by good soil. A mix of hardy perennials, grasses and conifers/ferns was planted, which require very little maintenance.

Leicester house - beds

The homeowners had recently had the back garden landscaped with beautiful white porcelain pavers, and a sloping section terraced, with a lower raised bed created. All they needed was the plants! The brief was for colourful plants with orange, purple, red, yellow and burgundy predominating. Shade plants were needed for the raised bed, while the narrow strip was in full sun. The narrow strip needed plants that were tall enough to be seen from the dining-room table, which was lower than the strip. Grasses and narrow conifers were placed, together with colourful evergreens.

Large garden in Leicestershire countryside

This very large country garden has been a slow and beautiful transformation. With towering trees, many existing shrubs nearing their sell-by date, wide beds, and varying light conditions, the design needed to balance structure and softness and above all — colour — offering year-round interest without overwhelming the space or obstructing magnificent countryside views. All 17 separate beds have been designed and most have been planted up, and the UK summer just needs to use its magic now on the growing process. Here's a look at the early stages, with more to come as the garden fills out.
